1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons ghee or oil
as needed water
as needed extra flour for dusting
as needed ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. 1 In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. 2 Add ghee or oil to the flour and mix well.
  3. 3 Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, smooth dough.
  4. 4 Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  5. 5 Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
  6. 6 Roll each ball into a small disc using a rolling pin, dusting with flour as needed.
  7. 7 Spread a little ghee or oil on the disc, fold it in half, and then fold again to form a triangle.
  8. 8 Roll the triangle into a larger, thin triangle, dusting with flour as needed.
  9. 9 Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat.
  10. 10 Place the rolled paratha on the hot tawa and cook until bubbles appear on the surface.
  11. 11 Flip the paratha and apply ghee or oil on the cooked side.
  12. 12 Cook the other side until golden brown spots appear, applying ghee or oil as needed.
  13. 13 Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
  14. 14 Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or curry of choice.

Tips

For softer parathas, use warm water to knead the dough.
