Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup urad dal
1 cup rice
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon green chili paste
1 tablespoon coriander seeds
water as needed

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the urad dal and rice separately for 6-8 hours or overnight.
  2. 2 Drain the water and grind the urad dal to a smooth paste using minimal water.
  3. 3 Grind the rice coarsely and mix it with the urad dal paste.
  4. 4 Add cumin seeds, black peppercorns, salt, ginger paste, green chili paste, and coriander seeds to the mixture.
  5. 5 Mix all the ingredients thoroughly to form a thick batter.
  6. 6 Spread a plastic sheet or clean cloth under the sun.
  7. 7 Take small portions of the batter and drop them onto the sheet to form small dumplings.
  8. 8 Sun-dry the dumplings for 2-3 days until they are completely dry and hard.
  9. 9 Store the dried vadiyalu in an airtight container for future use.

Tips

Ensure the vadiyalu are completely dry before storing to prevent spoilage.
