Ingredients
| 1 cup | raw rice |
| 1/2 cup | black gram dal (urad dal) |
| 1 cup | jaggery |
| 1 cup | grated coconut |
| 1 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 1 tablespoon | ghee |
| 1/2 teaspoon | salt |
| 1 cup | water |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the rice and black gram dal separately for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 2 Drain the water and grind the rice and dal together into a smooth batter using a little water.
- 3 In a pan, melt the jaggery with a cup of water and strain to remove impurities.
- 4 Add the jaggery syrup to the batter and mix well.
- 5 Stir in the grated coconut, cardamom powder, and salt into the batter.
- 6 Grease a pan with ghee and pour the batter into it.
- 7 Cover the pan and steam the batter for about 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- 8 Allow the Podo Pitha to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Tips
For a richer taste, you can add a few cashew nuts and raisins to the batter before steaming.
