Ingredients

1 cup poppy seeds
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
2 pieces green chilies, finely chopped
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 tablespoons gram flour (besan)
mustard oil for frying

Instructions

  1. 1 Soak the poppy seeds in water for 2 hours.
  2. 2 Drain the water and grind the poppy seeds into a smooth paste using minimal water.
  3. 3 In a mixing bowl, combine the poppy seed paste, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green chilies, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, salt, and gram flour.
  4. 4 Mix well to form a thick batter.
  5. 5 Heat mustard oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. 6 Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil to form small fritters.
  7. 7 Fry the fritters until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  8. 8 Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. 9 Serve hot as a snack or side dish.

Tips

Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent the fritters from absorbing too much oil.
