Ingredients
| 1 cup | poppy seeds |
| 1 medium | onion, finely chopped |
| 2 cloves | garlic, minced |
| 1 inch | ginger, grated |
| 2 pieces | green chilies, finely chopped |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 0.5 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| — | salt to taste |
| 2 tablespoons | gram flour (besan) |
| — | mustard oil for frying |
Instructions
- 1 Soak the poppy seeds in water for 2 hours.
- 2 Drain the water and grind the poppy seeds into a smooth paste using minimal water.
- 3 In a mixing bowl, combine the poppy seed paste, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green chilies, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, salt, and gram flour.
- 4 Mix well to form a thick batter.
- 5 Heat mustard oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- 6 Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil to form small fritters.
- 7 Fry the fritters until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
- 8 Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 9 Serve hot as a snack or side dish.
Tips
Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent the fritters from absorbing too much oil.
