| 1 cup | urad dal (split black gram) |
| 1 cup | chana dal (split chickpeas) |
| 1 cup | rice |
| 1 medium | onion, finely chopped |
| 2 tablespoons | ginger-garlic paste |
| 2 tablespoons | coriander leaves, finely chopped |
| 2 tablespoons | oil |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 1 teaspoon | mustard seeds |
| 1 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| 1 teaspoon | red chili powder |
| — | salt to taste |
| 2 cups | water |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the urad dal, chana dal, and rice together for 4-5 hours or overnight.
- 2 Drain the soaked ingredients and grind them into a coarse paste using a little water if necessary.
- 3 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
- 4 Once the seeds splutter, add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- 5 Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
- 6 Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- 7 Add the ground dal-rice paste to the pan and stir well to combine with the spices.
- 8 Add water gradually while stirring to achieve a thick batter-like consistency.
- 9 Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously to avoid sticking to the pan.
- 10 Once the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan, remove from heat.
- 11 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
Tips
Ensure continuous stirring while cooking to prevent the mixture from sticking to the pan.
