Ingredients

1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
1 cup rice
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
2 tablespoons coriander leaves, finely chopped
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
salt to taste
2 cups water

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the urad dal, chana dal, and rice together for 4-5 hours or overnight.
  2. 2 Drain the soaked ingredients and grind them into a coarse paste using a little water if necessary.
  3. 3 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  4. 4 Once the seeds splutter, add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  5. 5 Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
  6. 6 Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. 7 Add the ground dal-rice paste to the pan and stir well to combine with the spices.
  8. 8 Add water gradually while stirring to achieve a thick batter-like consistency.
  9. 9 Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously to avoid sticking to the pan.
  10. 10 Once the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan, remove from heat.
  11. 11 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Tips

Ensure continuous stirring while cooking to prevent the mixture from sticking to the pan.
