Ingredients
| 1 cup | sticky rice |
| 1 cup | minced pork |
| 1 small | onion, finely chopped |
| 2 cloves | garlic, minced |
| 1 inch | ginger, minced |
| 1 teaspoon | black pepper powder |
| 1 teaspoon | salt |
| 2 tablespoons | mustard oil |
| 1 tablespoon | soy sauce |
| 1 cup | water |
| 2 | banana leaves for wrapping |
Instructions
- 1 Wash the sticky rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- 2 Drain the soaked rice and set it aside.
- 3 In a mixing bowl, combine the minced pork, chopped onion, minced garlic, minced ginger, black pepper powder, salt, and soy sauce. Mix well.
- 4 Add the drained rice to the pork mixture and mix until well combined.
- 5 Heat the mustard oil in a pan over medium heat.
- 6 Add the rice and pork mixture to the pan and sauté for 5-7 minutes until the mixture is fragrant.
- 7 Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 8 Cut the banana leaves into large squares and soften them by passing them over an open flame or dipping them briefly in hot water.
- 9 Place a portion of the rice and pork mixture onto each banana leaf square and fold the leaf to form a parcel.
- 10 Secure the parcels with kitchen twine or toothpicks.
- 11 Place the parcels in a steamer and steam for 25-30 minutes until the rice is cooked through.
- 12 Remove from the steamer and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Tips
For a more authentic flavor, use fresh turmeric leaves instead of banana leaves if available.
