|
2 tablespoons | Oil |
|
1 cup | Toor Dal |
Instructions
- 1 In a large bowl, mix jowar flour with a pinch of salt.
- 2 Boil 1 cup of water and add it gradually to the flour, mixing with a spoon to form a dough.
- 3 Knead the dough well until smooth and divide it into equal portions.
- 4 Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it using a rolling pin to make thin rottis.
- 5 Heat a tawa (griddle) and cook each rotti on medium heat, flipping until both sides are cooked and slightly puffed.
- 6 For the curry, rinse the toor dal and pressure cook it with 3 cups of water until soft.
- 7 In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
- 8 Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
- 9 Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and sambar powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- 10 Add the cooked dal to the pan along with tamarind paste and salt. Mix well.
- 11 Simmer the curry for 10-15 minutes, adding water if needed to adjust consistency.
- 12 Finish with curry leaves and chopped coriander.
- 13 Serve the hot rottis with the prepared toor dal curry.
Tips
To make the rottis softer, you can add a teaspoon of oil while kneading the dough.
