Ingredients
| 1 cup | glutinous rice |
| 1 cup | grated coconut |
| 1/2 cup | jaggery |
| 1/4 teaspoon | salt |
| 1 cup | water |
| — | banana leaves for wrapping |
Instructions
- 1 Wash the glutinous rice thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 2 hours.
- 2 Drain the soaked rice and mix it with grated coconut, jaggery, and salt.
- 3 Cut banana leaves into squares large enough to wrap the rice mixture.
- 4 Pass the banana leaves over an open flame briefly to make them pliable.
- 5 Place a portion of the rice mixture onto each banana leaf square.
- 6 Fold the banana leaves to wrap the mixture securely, forming small parcels.
- 7 Place the wrapped parcels in a steamer and steam for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is cooked through.
- 8 Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving.
Tips
Ensure the banana leaves are pliable to avoid tearing while wrapping.
