A Portuguese-origin no-bake cream dessert (also known as 'sawdust pudding') made of alternating layers of whipped cream and finely crushed Marie biscuits set in a glass. Brought to Goa during Portuguese rule, it remains a popular restaurant dessert across Goa.

Ingredients

200 ml heavy cream
100 g sweetened condensed milk
100 g Marie biscuits
1 tsp vanilla extract
chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1 Crush the Marie biscuits into a fine powder using a food processor or by placing them in a sealed bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
  2. 2 In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  3. 3 Gently fold the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract into the whipped cream until well combined.
  4. 4 In serving glasses or bowls, layer the dessert by adding a layer of crushed biscuits, followed by a layer of the cream mixture.
  5. 5 Repeat the layering process until the ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of cream on top.
  6. 6 Refrigerate the dessert for at least 2 hours to set.
  7. 7 Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.

Tips

For a richer flavor, use a good quality vanilla extract and ensure the cream is well chilled before whipping.
