Prep: 15 min Cook: 25 min Total: 40 min 2-3 servings

Ingredients

4 slices white bread
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/4 cup ghee
2 tablespoons chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios)
1 tablespoon raisins
1 pinch saffron strands
silver leaf (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1 Cut the bread slices into triangles and set aside.
  2. 2 In a pan, heat ghee and fry the bread slices until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. 3 In another pan, combine sugar and water to make a syrup. Boil until it reaches a one-string consistency.
  4. 4 Add cardamom powder to the syrup and mix well.
  5. 5 In a separate pan, boil the milk and add saffron strands. Simmer until it thickens slightly.
  6. 6 Dip the fried bread slices in the sugar syrup for a few seconds, then arrange them on a serving plate.
  7. 7 Pour the thickened milk over the sugar-soaked bread slices.
  8. 8 Garnish with chopped nuts, raisins, and silver leaf if using.
  9. 9 Serve warm or chilled.

Tips

For a richer taste, use full-fat milk and allow the bread to soak in the syrup longer.
