Ingredients
| 4 slices | white bread |
| 1 cup | sugar |
| 1 cup | water |
| 1 cup | milk |
| 1/4 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 1/4 cup | ghee |
| 2 tablespoons | chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios) |
| 1 tablespoon | raisins |
| 1 pinch | saffron strands |
| — | silver leaf (optional) |
Instructions
- 1 Cut the bread slices into triangles and set aside.
- 2 In a pan, heat ghee and fry the bread slices until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- 3 In another pan, combine sugar and water to make a syrup. Boil until it reaches a one-string consistency.
- 4 Add cardamom powder to the syrup and mix well.
- 5 In a separate pan, boil the milk and add saffron strands. Simmer until it thickens slightly.
- 6 Dip the fried bread slices in the sugar syrup for a few seconds, then arrange them on a serving plate.
- 7 Pour the thickened milk over the sugar-soaked bread slices.
- 8 Garnish with chopped nuts, raisins, and silver leaf if using.
- 9 Serve warm or chilled.
Tips
For a richer taste, use full-fat milk and allow the bread to soak in the syrup longer.
