Ingredients
| 2 cups | all-purpose flour |
| 1 cup | warm water |
| 1 tablespoon | active dry yeast |
| 1 tablespoon | sugar |
| 1 teaspoon | salt |
| 1/4 cup | vegetable oil |
| 1/2 cup | molasses |
| 1/2 cup | water |
| 1 cup | sesame seeds |
Instructions
- 1 In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2 In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
- 3 Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4 Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5 Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 6 Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 20 inches long.
- 7 Fold each rope in half, twist it, and form a ring by pressing the ends together.
- 8 In a shallow bowl, mix molasses and water. Dip each ring into the molasses mixture, then coat with sesame seeds.
- 9 Place the rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 10 Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- 11 Let cool slightly before serving.
Tips
For a richer flavor, you can toast the sesame seeds lightly before coating the simit.
