Ingredients

1/2 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
6 corn tortillas
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup diced tomatoes
1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco or shredded cheese
lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until the onion is translucent.
  3. 3 Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  4. 4 Stir in the cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing well to combine.
  5. 5 Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. 6 Warm the corn tortillas in a separate dry skillet over medium heat or directly over a gas flame until pliable.
  7. 7 Assemble the tacos by placing a portion of the beef mixture onto each tortilla.
  8. 8 Top with chopped cilantro, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and cheese.
  9. 9 Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tacos.

Tips

For added flavor, toast the tortillas lightly before filling them.
