Ingredients

4 medium ripe tomatoes
1 medium onion
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon sugar
salt to taste
2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Chop the tomatoes and onion finely.
  2. 2 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. 3 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  4. 4 Add cumin seeds and sauté for a few seconds.
  5. 5 Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  6. 6 Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  7. 7 Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  8. 8 Mix well and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the oil separates.
  9. 9 Add sugar and mix well.
  10. 10 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For a tangy twist, add a teaspoon of lemon juice before serving.
