Ingredients

1 cup basmati rice
1 cup freshly grated coconut
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1 tablespoon ghee
1 cup water
salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the basmati rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
  2. 2 In a pan, dry roast the cumin seeds, black peppercorns, and coriander seeds until aromatic.
  3. 3 Grind the roasted spices into a fine powder.
  4. 4 Heat ghee in a pan and add the ground spice mix, sautéing for a minute.
  5. 5 Add the grated coconut to the pan and sauté until it turns light golden brown.
  6. 6 Add the soaked and drained rice to the pan, stirring well to coat it with the coconut and spices.
  7. 7 Pour in 1 cup of water and add salt to taste.
  8. 8 Cover the pan and cook on low heat until the rice is fully cooked and the water is absorbed.
  9. 9 Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Tips

For a more authentic flavor, use freshly grated coconut and adjust the spice level to your preference.
