Ingredients
| 1 cup | basmati rice |
| 1 cup | freshly grated coconut |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 1 teaspoon | black peppercorns |
| 1 teaspoon | coriander seeds |
| 1 tablespoon | ghee |
| 1 cup | water |
| — | salt to taste |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the basmati rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- 2 In a pan, dry roast the cumin seeds, black peppercorns, and coriander seeds until aromatic.
- 3 Grind the roasted spices into a fine powder.
- 4 Heat ghee in a pan and add the ground spice mix, sautéing for a minute.
- 5 Add the grated coconut to the pan and sauté until it turns light golden brown.
- 6 Add the soaked and drained rice to the pan, stirring well to coat it with the coconut and spices.
- 7 Pour in 1 cup of water and add salt to taste.
- 8 Cover the pan and cook on low heat until the rice is fully cooked and the water is absorbed.
- 9 Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
Tips
For a more authentic flavor, use freshly grated coconut and adjust the spice level to your preference.
