Ingredients

10 pieces green chilies
5 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon peanuts
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon oil
salt to taste
1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat a pan on medium flame and dry roast the peanuts until golden brown. Remove and let them cool.
  2. 2 In the same pan, add oil and heat it.
  3. 3 Add cumin seeds to the hot oil and let them splutter.
  4. 4 Add green chilies and garlic cloves to the pan and sauté for 2-3 minutes until the garlic turns golden.
  5. 5 Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. 6 In a mortar and pestle, add the roasted peanuts and crush them coarsely.
  7. 7 Add the sautéed chili-garlic mixture to the mortar along with salt and pound everything together to form a coarse paste.
  8. 8 Add freshly chopped coriander leaves to the thecha and mix well.
  9. 9 Serve the thecha as a spicy accompaniment with bhakri or rice.

Tips

Adjust the number of chilies according to your spice preference. Thecha is traditionally very spicy.
