Ingredients
| 1 cup | black gram (urad dal) |
| 1 cup | jaggery |
| 1 cup | water |
| 1 cup | wheat flour |
| 1 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 1 pinch | salt |
| as needed | oil for frying |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the black gram (urad dal) overnight or for at least 6-8 hours.
- 2 Drain the water and grind the soaked dal into a fine paste.
- 3 In a pan, add jaggery and water. Heat until the jaggery dissolves completely to form a syrup.
- 4 Add the jaggery syrup to the dal paste and mix well.
- 5 Add wheat flour, cardamom powder, and a pinch of salt to the mixture and combine thoroughly.
- 6 Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- 7 Take small portions of the batter and shape them into small balls or discs.
- 8 Carefully drop the shaped batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
- 9 Remove the tilori from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- 10 Serve warm or at room temperature.
Tips
Ensure the oil is not too hot to prevent the tilori from burning. Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of jaggery.
