Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon instant yeast
3/4 cup warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1 In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast together.
  2. 2 Gradually add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. 3 Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4 Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. 5 Punch down the dough and divide it into 2-3 equal portions.
  6. 6 Roll each portion into a thin round or oval shape on a floured surface.
  7. 7 Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  8. 8 Cook each flatbread for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown spots appear.
  9. 9 Remove from heat and cover with a clean cloth to keep warm and soft.

Tips

For a more authentic flavor, brush the flatbreads with melted butter or olive oil immediately after cooking.
