Ingredients

1 cup puffed rice (murmura)
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon chana dal
1 tablespoon urad dal
2 units green chilies, slit
1 unit onion, finely chopped
1 pinch turmeric powder
1 unit lemon, juiced
salt to taste
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
1 handful roasted peanuts

Instructions

  1. 1 Soak the puffed rice in water for about 2-3 minutes until soft. Drain and set aside.
  2. 2 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. 3 Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds; let them splutter.
  4. 4 Add chana dal and urad dal; sauté until golden brown.
  5. 5 Add slit green chilies and chopped onions; sauté until onions turn translucent.
  6. 6 Add a pinch of turmeric powder and mix well.
  7. 7 Add the soaked and drained puffed rice to the pan.
  8. 8 Add salt to taste and mix everything gently.
  9. 9 Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the mixture and stir well.
  10. 10 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and roasted peanuts before serving.

Tips

For a spicier version, add more green chilies or a pinch of red chili powder.
