Ingredients
|
1 cup | Rice flour |
|
1 cup | Water |
|
1 teaspoon | Ghee |
|
1 pinch | Salt |
|
1 cup | Coconut , fresh grated |
|
1 cup | Jaggery |
|
1/2 teaspoon | Cardamom , powder |
|
1 tablespoon | Poppy Seed |
|
1 tablespoon | Nut , chopped (cashews, almonds) |
Instructions
- 1 In a pan, heat the water with a pinch of salt and 1 teaspoon of ghee until it comes to a boil.
- 2 Reduce the heat to low and add the rice flour gradually, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- 3 Cover the pan and let the mixture steam for about 2-3 minutes, then turn off the heat.
- 4 Transfer the dough to a plate and knead it while it's warm until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth.
- 5 For the filling, heat a pan and roast the poppy seeds lightly until aromatic.
- 6 Add the grated coconut and jaggery to the pan, stirring continuously until the jaggery melts and mixes well with the coconut.
- 7 Add cardamom powder and chopped nuts, mix well, and cook for another 2 minutes. Let it cool.
- 8 Divide the dough into small balls. Flatten each ball into a small disc using your fingers.
- 9 Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling in the center of the disc.
- 10 Bring the edges together to form a pleated shape and seal the top to make a modak shape.
- 11 Steam the modaks in a steamer for about 10-12 minutes until they appear glossy.
Tips
Ensure the dough is kneaded well to avoid cracks in the modaks. Use fresh coconut for authentic flavor.
