Ingredients

White Pea 1 cup White Pea , dried
Onion 1 medium Onion , finely chopped
Tomato 2 medium Tomato , finely chopped
ginger-garlic paste 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
Mustard Seed 1 teaspoon Mustard Seed
Cumin 1 teaspoon Cumin , seeds
red chili powder 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
turmeric powder 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
garam masala 1 teaspoon Garam masala
coriander powder 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
oil 1 tablespoon Oil
water 1 cup Water
salt to taste Salt

Cilantro 1 tablespoon Cilantro , chopped
lemon juice 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1 Rinse the dried white peas thoroughly and soak them in water overnight or for at least 8 hours.
  2. 2 Drain the soaked peas and pressure cook them with 1 cup of water and a pinch of salt for 3-4 whistles or until soft.
  3. 3 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, allowing them to splutter.
  4. 4 Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  5. 5 Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
  6. 6 Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and the oil starts to separate.
  7. 7 Mix in the red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 2 minutes.
  8. 8 Add the cooked peas along with the water from the pressure cooker. Mix well.
  9. 9 Simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  10. 10 Stir in the garam masala and cook for another 2 minutes.
  11. 11 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice.
  12. 12 Serve hot with pav buns, toasted with a little butter on a pan.

Tips

For a spicier version, add more red chili powder or a few green chilies.
